The introduction of a new, unlikely nemesis for Iron Man just proved that the hero's traditional «villain problem» can actually be fixed with enough creativity. The lack of impressive, memorable Iron Man villains has plagued the character for a very long time, but the creative team behind Iron Man demonstrate that this issue can be solved by thinking outside of the box.
Despite the resounding success of the MCU version of the character, made famous by Robert Downey Jr.'s now-iconic interpretation, Iron Man traditionally hasn't been an A-list hero. Some critics point out that, while the character is appealing, Tony Stark lacks memorable villains. Every hero needs a nemesis to shine and measure their worth against, such as Doctor Doom for the Fantastic Four or the Red Skull for Captain America. Iron Man's most likely candidate for that role is the Mandarin, but with the alien-powered warlord currently out of the picture (even if his signature Ten Rings recently reappeared), Tony needs someone who can step up and become his nemesis. Very few people, however, expected this to be a disgruntled gorilla.
