Over the years, Marvel’s Tony Stark aka Iron Man has developed his fair share of iconic armor sets, and when donning the Hypervelocity suit, Tony is imbued with the power of superspeed in more ways than one. Being physically fast may have untold amounts of potential uses, but when Tony’s mind gets a speed boost as well? That’s when things get real.
Seen in 2007’s six-issue limited series titled Iron Man: Hypervelocity, by Adam Warren and Brian Denham, this particular story gave Iron Man a new suit to take to the skies in, one that’s immediately revealed to be far more interesting — and unique — than it initially lets on. Looking similar to the designs of other Iron Man suits from Tony’s past, the Hypervelocity suit is a bit beefier in places but is set apart by an armored collar flourish, a glowing, diamond-shaped chest cavity, extra speed boosters all around, and the familiar red and gold color scheme of tried and true Iron Man costume.

Built by Tony as an “obvious next step” in Iron Man tech, it’s revealed that since Tony’s original suit was built to preserve his damaged heart, the Hypervelocity suit would be constructed to preserve his brain instead. By compiling a digital persona made up of Tony’s neuro scans, personality emulators, and thought-pattern software, this simulated Tony 2.0 would take over the suit’s functions should the OG Tony Stark become critically incapacitated, bringing along with it the speedy physical upgrades the suit already possesses, and opening the door for an even more perfect form of superspeed in the process.
