We’re still waiting for Intel to officially launch the Arc desktop graphics cards in the US. But in the meantime, the company is revealing benchmarks for what might be the most powerful GPU in the series, the Arc A770.
The company posted(Opens in a new window) the benchmarks in a Thursday video talking up the Arc A770’s ray-tracing capabilities, which can render realistic lighting and shadow effects in games.
The benchmarks pit the Arc A770 against Nvidia’s RTX 3060 in 17 games running at 1080p with the ray-tracing graphics turned on. The results show Intel’s GPU can significantly outshine Nvidia’s product in most of the games, but not all.
Overall, the Arc A770 averaged 13% in higher frame rates over the RTX 3060. The Intel GPU excelled the most in games, including Fortnite and Metro Exodus, posting 56% and 31% increase in performance, respectively.
However, the Arc A770 lost to the RTX 3060 in four games, including F1 2022, Guardians of the Galaxy, Battlefield V, and Deathloop, although Intel says it's still working on new drivers to improve the gaming performance over the Arc GPUs.
"It's early days for us and things are going to continue to get better," said Intel graphics fellow Tom Petersen in the video(Opens in a new window).
The company also showed another benchmark of the Arc A770 at a 1440p resolution. But this time, the GPU was running with both ray tracing and Intel’s game-boosting XeSS technology turned on to increase the frame rates even more.
The benchmark only covered five games, but as you can see, the XeSS technology can make a huge difference on performance.
The results suggest the Arc A770 will end up competing against Nvidia’s slightly more powerful RTX 3060 Ti graphics card, which currently
