I Know What You Did Last Summer 3 Begins Production in First Set Photo

Despite not reprising her role as Helen Shivers in, franchise vet Sarah Michelle Gellar has shared the first set photo, confirming that production on Sony Pictures’ third installment has officially started.

In a recent interview, Gellar confirmed that she won’t be returning for the threequel since her character will remain dead. However, due to her closeness to director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, she teased that she would somehow still have an unofficial part in the project.

“My best friend [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity,” she said. “So I’m always the one telling her, ‘Well, that would happen, or that wouldn’t happen with those characters,’ so I do have kind of an unofficial job title.”

Set to arrive in theaters on July 18, 2025, I Know What You Did Last Summer 3 is being directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, Jeff Howard, and Leah McKendrick. It is produced by Neal Moritz. At the moment, further details about the plot are still being kept under wraps.

After over two decades since last starring in 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt have signed on to reprise their respective roles as Rayn Bronson and Julie James. They will be joined by franchise newcomers Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid, The Tattooist of Auschwitz), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery), Chase Sui Wonders (Bodies Bodies Bodies, City on Fire), Sarah Pidgeon (Lazareth, Tiny Beautiful Things), Tyriq Withers (The Game), Lola Tung (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Austin Nichols (The Day After Tomorrow, John From Cincinnati), Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), and musician/model Gabbriette.
