The Ai Pin from Humane kept getting teased the entire year, but it is expected that the device will finally be unveiled this week. Before the announcement, a slew of details were unearthed thanks to some documents, revealing the pricing details of the product and the kind of features it will ship with. Needless to say, some consumers will not be happy about paying an extra $24 a month as a subscription, alongside its hefty price tag.
Humane is attempting to market a vision of a world that comes after smartphones, and the Ai Pin is the company’s representation of that future. According to The Verge, this device will cost $699, which is $100 less than what consumers pay for the base iPhone 15, and on top of that, buyers will be required to fork over an additional $24 a month as a subscription fee for being the proud owners of the Ai Pin. It also runs on a Humane-branded version of T-Mobile’s network and is integrated with Microsoft’s and OpenAI’s AI models.
Keep in mind that the Ai Pin does not possess a display like a smartphone, and it magnetically attaches to your clothes or other surfaces. A clip is used to tether the device securely and also acts as a battery pack, allowing users to swap these clips at will to get more juice out of Humane’s first product. Unsurprisingly, the company has not provided battery timings for the Ai Pin, and given its small size, we doubt that it will last more than just a few hours.
The processing is handled by an unnamed Snapdragon SoC, with the Ai Pin sporting a camera, depth, and motion sensors to track and record its surroundings.
