The world’s first commercially-produced tri-fold smartphone, the Huawei Mate XT, is expected to be officially announced on September 10, and unsurprisingly, the company has opened up reservations for its upcoming flagship. While we assume that there will be a limited number of units at launch, the sheer attention that the device has garnered from consumers could likely be nothing short of overwhelming for the company because, at the time of writing, there are more 2 million recorded reservations for the Mate XT.
After a multitude of leaks and rumors surrounding the Huawei Mate XT, the former Chinese giant has opened up reservations for the smartphone, with the official sale scheduled to kick off on September 19. The company included a tracker to see how many people have shown interest in the tri-folding smartphone, and with more than 2.3 million reservations made, it is safe to say that Huawei’s competitors are probably getting nervous. One thing to keep in mind is that the number of reservations does not indicate how successful the initial shipment run will be.
Huawei will likely have a limited number of units available in stock, as one can only imagine the kind of engineering and design prowess various teams would need to possess to come up with something like the Mate XT, and even then, putting this form factor into mass production would be accompanied by a wave of problems. Since no company has attempted to release a similar product, we expect it to be stamped with a large price tag. Fortunately, that has not hindered the large swath of customers who have displayed an interest in it.
