While having a hero join the team isn't a required part of the game, it's a great idea to recruit one when playing through the increased difficulties or facing the more challenging bosses. Recruiting heroes and other characters in Xenoblade Chronicles 3is accompanied by completing a Hero Quest, and these quests are available after reaching a milestone in-game.

Before players unlock the ability to recruit Zeon to the team in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Valdi must become available as a party member following the events of Chapter 2. After completing the quests at Colony 4, the team will set off to the southern region of the map, where they will eventually meet Valdi at Elsie's Spout. Players will need to fight the hero class opponent to gain access to the next step of the main quest, eventually leading to the liberation of Colony 30. Once completed, Valdi will become available to use as a hero on the team, giving players the ability to recruit Zeon and all other heroes.
