Fallout 3 and Skyrim may take place in entirely different universes, but the super mutants of the wasteland share a connection with the Dremora of The Elder Scrolls. From post-apocalyptic Washington D.C. to the snowy reaches of war-torn Skyrim, the two could not appear more different on the surface. However, there is more connecting the two series than there seems initially. Sly in-jokes and nods are well and good, but there are also deeper connections.
Bethesda has a habit of carrying jokes across games and franchises. One, in particular, is a favorite among fans: the sweet roll. The sweet roll first made its appearance during character generation in The Elder Scrolls: Arena, and has made numerous cameos in nearly every Bethesda game since including Fallout 3, where it serves as a source of early conflict during the main character's 10th birthday. Fallout has more directly referenced The Elder Scrolls in the form of the Experimental Plants in Fallout 4, which are a nod to the Nirnroot plants seen in Skyrim.

However, one of the other things the two games have in common is the voice of actor Wes Johnson. In Fallout 3, Johnson provided the voice of Fawkes, the loveable and thoughtful super mutant companion first encountered in Vault 87. He also lends his voice every other super mutant, including Uncle Leo (the only other friendly mutant in the game). In Skyrim, he provides the voice for the sinister Dremora enemies. In addition, he provides the voice of Emperor Titus Mede II, encountered at the end of the Dark Brotherhood questline, and the Daedric lord of madness Sheogorath, also in Skyrim and Oblivion.
