Yesterday, Apple announced a new iPhone SE, the smallest, most budget-friendly iPhone the company offers. Ahead of the Apple event, SellCell surveyed over 2,500 iPhone owners about the SE, and 40% of respondents said they would buy it for themselves or for someone else.
Of those who intend to purchase the iPhone SE for themselves, 59.5% will buy it to use as their main phone, and 9.2% plan to use it as an additional device. Those who are buying it for someone else will do so for their children (10.9%), partners or spouses (10.2%), grandparents (4.5%), and other family members (3.4%).
The top reasons for survey respondents choosing the iPhone SE are price (29.4%), wanting an upgrade (25.5%), 5G (15.2%), its compact size (11.3%), and Touch ID (6.7%).
Those who said that they would not be purchasing the newest iPhone SE said they’re happy with their existing phones (66.2%), are not due for an upgrade (15.7%), are waiting for the iPhone 14 (9.3%), find it to be too small (4.1%), or think it’s not premium enough (4%). A (very) few are switching to an Android phone (1.7%).
When people do buy a new phone, they can offset the price by selling their old one. Most prospective iPhone SE purchasers plan to replace an iPhone 11.
