Chris Pratt explains how Gamora's death impacts Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gamora is played by actress Zoe Saldaña, who first appeared alongside Pratt's Peter Quill/Star-Lord in 2014'sGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1. The two characters shared a romantic bond in the film, which evolved well into 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and upped the stakes when they next appeared together in Avengers: Infinity War, which had Thanos sacrificing her to get the Soul Stone. Gamora reappeared in Avengers: Endgame as an earlier version of her character, having no knowledge of the Guardians or any of the events past 2014, before she met or got to know Star-Lord.
At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Gamora and Star-Lord come face-to-face, but she has no memory (let alone romantic feelings) of him. When Thanos is defeated, Star-Lord is seen plotting his next course with Thor joining them for the journey, but Gamora is nowhere to be seen. In Thor: Love and Thunder, the Guardians are seen still traveling with Thor, but without Gamora and with no explanation as to her whereabouts. Director James Gunn has said that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was written prior to Thor: Love and Thunder, so the film holds no bearing on the upcoming events in the sequel, but Gamora's absence is noted.
