During an interview with Screen Rant, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn discussed the film's version of Adam Warlock, and how he plans on doing the character justice. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, debuting next May,has been a long-awaited MCU property since the release of 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Despite being utilized in this summer's Thor: Love and Thunder, the Guardians team, made up of heroes such as Chris Pratt's Star-Lord, Dave Bautista's Drax, and Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon, has been in something of a limbo. Ultimately, the project was stalled due not only to the larger MCU using the Guardians team in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame, but controversy temporarily striking Gunn from the project and bringing him to DC to helm The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.
However, since production on GOTG Vol. 3 wrapped earlier this year, fans have been anticipating the direction this third and final installment will take. What has been confirmed is the presence of Will Poulter as comics fan favorite Adam Warlock, who will reportedly be the main villain the Guardians will have to face in the upcoming sequel. Gunn has been hinting at the arrival of the overpowered Warlock since the very end of Vol. 2, and with Sovereign queen Ayesha, Warlock's mother in the comics, factoring into Vol. 3 as well, an epic central storyline for Warlock seems all but certain. Knowing how Gunn fared with other cosmic Marvel villains such as Ronan the Accuser and Ego the Living Planet, fans are eager to see how Gunn and his crew interpret this new villain.
