James Gunn explains why the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer wasn't released to the public. After working on Warner Bros.' DCEU, the filmmaker is back with Marvel Studios to wrap up his Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended up delayed for a while due to Gunn's firing and rehiring, not to mention the coronavirus pandemic, but the film is currently in post-production and on track to release in 2023.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was among the MCU projects that had a presence at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel Studios returned to Hall H for the first time since laying out their Phase 4 plans on the heels of the Infinity Saga. Kevin Feige spearheaded the panel, where he confirmed the full MCU Phase 5 slate, which included the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn and most of the core cast were in attendance, where it was also confirmed that Chukwudi Iwuji will play the narrative's villain, the High Evolutionary. Since filming for the threequel has wrapped up, Gunn debuted the first official footage, but it was exclusively screened at Hall H and did not release online.

After the panel, some fans were disappointed about this, with one reaching out to the filmmaker and expressing their dismay that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer wasn't released to the public. Gunn replies that it wasn't just Marvel Studios' decision, as he also chose not to debut the footage to the public, because he isn't quite satisfied with the status of the VFX work this early in post-production. He does promise that he's working hard to deliver fans a proper Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer soon. Read Gunn's full
