There are many ways to enhance items in Diablo 4 — through Upgrading, Socketing, Enchanting, and Imprinting. So, how do you know when it's time to swap an item out or stick with what you've got? Well, the simple answer is to compare the Item Affixes.
Item Affixes Overview Guide Unique Target-Farming Tool While this might seem like an obvious answer, what is not so obvious is the pool of Item Affixes that are capable of rolling on each piece of gear. Most classes will want to look for specific Affixes on certain item slots, such as Defensive Affixes on Chest and Legs, Critical Strike Chance on Rings and Hands, and Resource Generation on Amulets.
While each of these pools of Item Affixes is not visible in-game, we have made Guides for each class, detailing which Affixes can roll for each gear slot.Example of the Enchanting window from Diablo 3, showing the possible Item Affixes that can roll on a piece of gear. With the combination of Enchanting and being able to Imprint a Legendary Aspect onto a Rare item, a much lower Item Power Legendary can be safely replaced with a Rare that has better Affixes for your build — just transfer the Aspect.
In addition to our guides, there are also community-made tools, such as d4craft.com's Enchanter Tool that allows users to simulate Enchanting an item at the Occultist, in order to see which Affixes might roll on a certain piece of gear. While we certainly hope that the «Possible Properties» window from Diablo 3 will make its way into Diablo 4, for now, these are the tools that we can use in its place.
