Hot to Watch the ISS Spacewalk Today

Two astronauts are set to perform a spacewalk outside the International Space Station this morning at 10am ET.

NASA's live stream starts 30 minutes before (9:30am ET) the spacewalk is set to commence, and you can watch it right here:

Expedition 67 Commander Oleg Artemyev of Roscosmos and Flight Engineer Samantha Cristoforetti of the Eueopean Space Agency (ESA) will exit the Poisk module wearing Russian Orian spacesuits (Artemyev's suit will have red stripes, while Cristoforetti's suit will have blue stripes). The duo will then proceed to the Nauka laboratory module where the ESA's Robotic Arm is located.

There are multiple goals for this spacewalk(Opens in a new window), including installing platforms and fitting a workstation hardware adapter to the 37-foot-long manipulator system, relocating the arm's external control panel, replacing a protective window on the arm's camera unit, and extending a Strela telescoping boom from the Zarya module to the Poisk module "to facilitate future spacewalks." The astronauts are also expected to deploy 10 nanosatellites to collect radio electronics data during the spacewalk.

With so much to do, it should come as no surprise the spacewalk is expected to last six-and-a-half hours, so get comfortable and bring snacks if you intend to watch the whole thing. As this is Cristoforetti's first spacewalk, she's probably glad it will last so long. Meanwhile, Artemyev is already a veteran of working is space and this will be his sixth spacewalk.
