When players start up Horizon Forbidden West for the first time, the in-game tutorial will point out that the game will auto-save at important moments. This can happen when missions are completed or when certain events take place. The thing is,Forbidden Westplayers won't be able to manually save until they get through the opening act, and head west (after the opening credits showing Aloy riding a machine across various environments). Once players begin the main mission called «To the Brink,» they'll be taken down a cable car with an NPC named Karhn.

After players get off the cable car and watch the cutscene with Vuadis and Joruf, Aloy will be free to continue the path and players will see the first Campfire in the game. This is what players need to interact with in order to manually save their game, or perform a Quick Save.
Quick Save will overwrite the current save file and will bring players back to that exact moment if they choose to close the game out and continue the game. Players can use the manual save option if they want to have multiple save files for loading up different points of Horizon Forbidden West.
