Knowing about Gwen Stacy’s death doesn’t really help anyone further their lives on a normal day, yet when Deadpool finds himself stuck in 1970s New York City it makes all the difference.
Shown during a serialized story published across a handful of variant covers from The Merc With A Mouth’s sixth solo series, Deadpool’s #SecretComic, by Gerry Duggan and Scott Koblish, teams Wade Wilson with a sentient barcode named UPC-PO as Deadpool tries his best to escape from the cover-verse and arrive safely back in the Marvel Universe proper. Inexplicably finding a way to successfully travel through time during his epic journey, Deadpool and UPC-PO wind up in the 70s and immediately realize they’ll be needing a place to stay for the next few decades or so.

Telling UPC-PO that he has a “sneaking suspicion” of a place they can most likely crash at, Deadpool and UPC-PO head to a nearby apartment building to suss out Wade’s lead. Knocking on a seemingly random apartment door when they arrive, Deadpool and UPC-PO are greeted by a character that fans could have never guessed at: an alive and well Gwen Stacy!
Explaining to her that he’s under the assumption that “this apartment will be coming up for rent soon,” Gwen lashes out at Deadpool exclaiming, “My father’s been dead less than a week, and you vultures want our apartment?!” immediately placing this story around the time when Captain Stacy, Gwen’s father, had just perished during a fight between Spider-Man and his iconic villain, Doctor Octopus.
