With the end of March coming up, Pokémon GO has released an April content update that includes the announcement of a surprise Mega Pokémon Raid at the end of the month. Mega Evolution has become a popular and exciting mechanic in Pokémon GO, allowing certain Pokémon a fourth evolution for a limited time. However, the mechanic requires the use of Mega Candy, which can be difficult to come by unless a Mega Evolution is actively available to battle in Mega Raids.
Currently, Mega Charizard Y is the active option in Mega Raids, with players able to amass Mega Charizard Candy until Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Because Charizard is an overwhelmingly popular Pokémon, the opportunity to catch one with the Mega Y capability, and with the chance of it being Shiny, is an exciting challenge for many players. However, there are dozens of other Mega-capable Pokémon that fans may want to add to their teams, and many species haven't yet had a Pokémon GO debut.

In an update on PokémonGoLive, a surprise Mega Evolution Raid battle has been revealed alongside the other options for the month in Pokémon GO. Players will start the month with Mega Charizard Y, and then Mega Manectric will be available from April 5, 2022, to April 12, 2022. After Mega Manectric, Mega Pidgeot will be featured from April 12, 2022, to April 29, 2022. However, from April 29 to May 3, 2022, a Mega Raid is shown in the update with question marks in the place of the Pokémon's picture. While it is possible the raid could be an already introduced Pokémon, there is also a chance Pokémon GO will debut a new Mega form for players to catch.
