If you're a relatively new Hollow Knight fan, it can be difficult to imagine that the Hollow Knight fanbase was once full of excitement and optimism. Way back in 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced and revealed to rapturous applause, promising an ambitious sequel that would feature a whole new world to explore and the opportunity to play as fan favorite character Hornet. However, a whole five years later, we're still waiting.
Over the past few years, the Hollow Knight fanbase has gone from excited, to patient, to downright desperate. With only a couple of gameplay trailers released over that time and no release date in sight, Hollow Knight fans are now ravenous for any piece of news that so much as hints to the fact that development is progressing smoothly. It doesn't take much to send them into a downward spiral though, and the five-year anniversary of Silksong's initial announcement has them down bad.

We have some people telling others to let developer Team Cherry cook and give them as much time as they need, though better communication would be appreciated. On the other hand, you have people fully convinced that Silksong's announcement was some kind of horrible shared fever dream the entire planet went through at the same time.

It's not much better on the Hollow Knight subreddit either, with one post in particular becoming a hotbed for defeated fans convinced they'll never see Silksong in their lifetime. You have fans calling the game fake, pretending it was never announced in the first place, or convinced it's an elborate prank. One person even pointed out that Silksong has probably been in development for a year or so before its initial announcement, meaning it's been cooking for probably more than six years at this point.
