When players are sorted into their desired house in , one of four Common Rooms becomes their home in the castle for the remainder of the game, but only if they can find it. When beginning to experience the vast size of Hogwarts, players may struggle to find their Common Room on their own. The amount of secret locations and collectibles around Hogwarts tends to get players lost around the six main wings, but specific landmarks make it far easier to find these unique house spaces.
An important fact players should remember is that they cannot enter the Common Room for another house. Only by resetting their character's house are they able to access the other dormitory spaces, although their entrances may still be found. Considering the amount of hidden field guide pages in that reside near these spaces, players could benefit from knowing where every house's Common Room would be. Players unlock their house's Common Room after their tutorial mission with Professor Fig in Gringotts, once they have picked their desired house.

One easy method for players to find their Common Room comes from the Grand Staircase, a central section in Hogwarts. Past the House Point Hourglass in the Reception Hall, the Grand Staircase leads to five separate floors for players to explore, with the Common Rooms toward the bottom fourfloors.
The top floor hosts the Trophy Room, which unfortunately stays locked until players learn the Alohomora spell in . The mascot of each house remains a good indicator for which floor has which Common Room when players are going up and down the stairs.
