Platinum Games co-founder Hideki Kamiya has said that in 2024 he wants a new job in games so that he can “have a meal.”
Speaking to Japanese magazine Famitsu as part of its feature wherein it asked several game developers for their hopes for 2024, Kamiya said, “I want to get a job making games so that I can have a meal.”
The developer, often known for his flippant comments and eccentric online personality, left the Japanese studio last year. Prior to this, Kamiya served as Platinum’s vice president and its most senior creative force, overseeing franchises such as Bayonetta and Astral Chain.
Kamiya co-founded Platinum in 2006, but his career began at Capcom, where he was best known for directing Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry and, at its spin-off Clover studio, Okami and Viewtiful Joe.
The enigmatic developer has made it clear that he would like to continue developing games following his time at Platinum.
In his first video on his YouTube channel following his departure from the company, he appeared in a Lamborghini sports car, joking that he was“off to the job center.”
In the same video, Kamiya suggested that he may have a non-compete clause following his departure. “I can’t work for (the same industry for) a year, due to reasons. So, it’ll be a while until I bring good news to you all. It’ll take time. but I’ll make it happen.”
In a video published late last year on his YouTube channel, Kamiya said he expects Bayonetta to live on, while expressing disappointment that he won’t get to fulfil his vision for the series.
