As leadership has seen a major overhaul, an anonymous studio insider believes Henry Cavill's Superman is needed for a DC Extended Universe revival. Cavill made his DCEU debut as Clark Kent in Man of Steel, the Zack Snyder-helmed film that helped launch Warner Bros' comic book franchise in 2013. He would reprise the role for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and both the maligned theatrical version of Justice League and the better-received Zack Snyder's Justice League that premiered on HBO Max last year.
While Cavill himself has received generally positive reviews for his performances, his depiction of Superman has drawn polarized reviews from critics and audiences alike for being a darker and flawed version of the hero in comparison to his brighter nature in the comics. As Warner Bros. has shifted away from completely interconnected films and Cavill has become busy with the likes of the Mission: Impossible franchise and The Witcher series at Netflix, Superman has largely been absent from the DCEU, save for a handful of name references and faceless cameos in Shazam! and Peacemaker. With audiences hungry for Cavill's return, some believe it may be now or never to bring the British star back.
