One of fiction's most beloved and long-lasting figures in pop culture is James Bond, the British Secret Service agent who was created by Ian Fleming in 1953. Like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, the MCU, and many other beloved franchises, James Bond holds the title as one of the oldest and longest-running film franchises of all time. Similar to someone like Batman, only a handful of actors have been able to take on the role in various James Bond movies spanning several decades.
The last actor to carry the James Bond mantle was Craig, who began his run in 2006 with Casino Royale. The British star went on to star in 4 additional installments, with Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre, before his tenure ended with 2021's No Time to Die. While Craig won the role for the 2006 film, James Bond was almost played by a then-unknown Cavill, almost 5 years prior to him being cast as Superman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. On several occasions, he has talked about losing out to Craig for Casino Royale in 2005, with the reason being that Cavill was too young to play James Bond, according to the movie's creative team.
