Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead Game Studios has been dishing out updates at a steady pace ever since launch, tweaking and adding certain things to try and make its game the best it can be. Some of these changes haven't been all that well-received, but the game's most recent patch has finally made things a little easier on players by lowering the spawn rate of Bile Titans and Chargers, two bug variants that have been causing trouble lately.
While it seemed like that was good news for the moment, the reduction of Bile Titans and Chargers has seen a new threat to Super Earth emerge, and it can fly. First spotted by Reddit user Litnos, they shared an image with the Helldivers2 subreddit of the game's new flying menace, which are called Shriekers. Their introduction wasn't mentioned in the patch notes, and Arrowhead really does seem to have sneaked them in without fans knowing.
Litnos went on to detail their experience with the Shriekers, explaining that they first encountered them in a Difficulty 5 Mission on Fenrir III. According to them, the Shriekers started pouring out of their nests when they got close, but they can be destroyed with either a Hellbomb or a 500kg bomb. Shriekers will also take damage from light weapons, but you will have a bad time if you try and take them out with a shotgun like the Breaker.
Thankfully, it seems like Shriekers function similarly to Stalkers, as players can destroy their nests out on the battlefield to stop them from spawning.
While Arrowhead may not have let people know the Shriekers were being added so soon, we've known for a while about the potential of flying enemies. For starters, the game's box art actually features a Shrieker flying in the distance, and several leaked video showcasing the enemies have been circulating online recently. We knew they were on the way, but we still definitely weren't prepared for the skies of Helldivers 2 to become a lot less safe.
