Harley Quinn's Pirate Swimsuit Cover Pokes Fun At Classic Origin
In a fun new variant cover from DC Comics, Harley Quinn suits up in a swimsuit and takes to the acid-filled seas in art that references her classic origin. Harley Quinn #21's cover by Megan Huang features the antihero sailing alongside her pet hyenas on top of a barrel with holes poked in it, showing Harley might be fighting a losing battle to keep her makeshift ship afloat.
Harley Quinn's origin is one of the most iconic in comics. Famously, Harleen Quinzel was a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum who, after meeting and falling in love with her patient, the Joker, transformed into a villain known as Harley Quinn. However, the relationship was incredibly abusive, as Quinn's skin was bleached white after Joker pushed her into a vat of chemicals. Eventually, Harley broke free from the Joker and gained independence as an antihero, where the zany character's good intentions don't always get the results she's hoping for. Still, there's no question Quinn is trying to be a better person, even joining the Bat-Family.

DC Comics revealed a handful of new swimsuit variant cover art starring heroes and villains, which will appear on covers throughout August. Harley Quinn's cover from Megan Huang that will appear on Harley Quinn #21 pokes fun at the hero's origin, as she can be seen pirating a hole-filled barrel with her hyenas over a sea filled with acid. In this case, Harley seems to be in control of her destiny, even if her choice of vessel leaks at the worst possible time. The image captures Harley's personal battle in choosing a new path, as she's staying afloat despite a leaking ship.
