If there's one thing that gets comic book fans and collectors hearts racing, it's comic book variant covers. The alternate covers provide an opportunity for books to showcase some impressive pieces from some truly talented artists. Recent years have seen comic book publishers like Marvel and DC use variants to connect their books with an overall theme, either focused on a specific character or style. The alternate covers have helped bring awareness to up-and-coming comic book artists and allow for a greater experimentation than fans may see with standard covers.

And readers are certainly in for a treat with DC's August variants, which were revealed by Newsarama and feature various heroes and villains enjoying the season. The cover for Black Adam #3 by Emanuela Lupacchino features the titular character going for a soak. Jeff Dékal shows Selina staying far from the water in his variant for Catwoman #46.
