NetherRealm hasn’t confirmed or denied its plans for a new Mortal Kombat game following the roaring success of Mortal Kombat 11. Normally the pattern would be for a new Injustice game in between Mortal Kombat offerings, but these aren’t normal times. Warner Bros. has hinted it might be willing to sell NetherRealm for the right price, although that price hasn’t come up yet.
To further cement the idea that NetherRealm is working on a new Mortal Kombat game, Johnny Cage voice actor Andrew Bowen tweeted a video Monday of himself on the Warner Bros. studio lot, likely implying some recording sessions in the immediate future. As one Twitter follower pointed out, the background music in the tweet was the Mortal Kombat 2 arcade soundtrack. "Every deadly technique. It’s savage combat."

Last summer, industry insider Jeff Grubb said on his Grubbsnax podcast that NetherRealm was likely to prioritize a new Mortal Kombat game over Injustice due to uncertainty regarding their future with Warner Bros. A sale likely wouldn’t include the rights to DC characters such as Batman and Superman, but would likely include the Mortal Kombat IP.
"I wouldn't say that this is for sure," said Grubb, "but it lines up with the reality and it lines up with what I've heard where Mortal Kombat 12 would make the most sense because that's a game they know will make money."
Warner Bros. has since confirmed full support of NetherRealm and that it will remain with the company.
