Today's Race to World First update is all about Halondrus, a boss that has proven to be a real wall boss and then some! For the first time in a very very long time, a mid-tier boss has passed the 200 pull boss for both Echo and Liquid! Both guilds made some tepid progress at various times throughout the past 24 hours, and Liquid has also spent some valuable time gaining item level from Heroic splits. During the day, towards the end of Echo's day, a set of nerfs were applied to Halondrus.
Blizzard reduced the boss of the health by 10%, and made some slight mechanical adjustments by fixing the spawns of the sky lasers as well as causing the slow debuff to apply more often to melee than to ranged. These nerfs have certainly reduced the pain of the encounter, but it remains extremely brutal with thousands of opportunities per pull to one-shot the entire raid.
It remains to be seen whether this boss ends up dying sub 250 or even 300 pulls or whether it goes well beyond that (or eats another nerf if it remains this difficult and withstands another day of effort from the very best guilds in the world). It's certainly proved to be quite the equalizer in the Race to World First, as now the majority of the top 10 are working on Halondrus, after Liquid and Echo had opened up a multi-boss lead on the field earlier.
