Halo Infinite‘s fourth season will introduce a new progression system to the game.
According to a new blog article on the Halo Waypoint website, when Season 4 arrives on June 20 it will be accompanied by Career Rank, a new way for players to track their progress across all modes.
Career Rank will be similar to the progression systems in Halo: Reach and Halo: The Master Chief Collection, though it’s said to be most like the latter.
“To make progress through these new ranks, all you have to do is play,” senior community manager John Junyszek said in the blog.
“Whether you’re jumping into your favorite playlist solo or squadding up with your friends, every completed matchmaking game carries you forward.
“Additionally, Career Rank utilises performance-based progression taken directly from your Personal Score in each match. The better you play, the faster you’ll rank up.”
As seen in the progression image, players start off as Recruits, and work their way through six different ‘Tiers’ – Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Onyx, before reaching the final title Hero.
Each tier is split into military-style ‘Ranks’, which are each split into smaller increments called ‘Grades’.
Players’ ranks will be visible during match intros, on player profiles and during the Post-Game Carnage Report.
“In general, in most places where you see a player’s full nameplate, a banner with their Career Rank will also be displayed,” Junyszek said.
Career Rank will not affect matchmaking in any way, and will not reset at the end of each Season – “it is meant to track your overall progress in Halo Infinite,” Junyszek explained.
This summer’s Xbox Games Showcase will take place on Sunday, June 11, and will begin at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST / 7pm CET.
