While it had been in a beta stage for some time, when the roguelike action title Hades fully launched in 2020, it seemed to take the gaming world by storm. Praised by both general audiences and critics for its storytelling, music, dialogue, and gameplay, Hades won the first ever Hugo Award for Best Video Game, as well as multiple other awards like the BAFTA for Best Game. The title also racked up some impressive sales figures, having sold over a million copies at the time of writing.
Considering Hades' success, many wondered why its developer Supergiant Games didn't release any additional content for the game. Hades features famous characters from Greek mythology, such as Zeus, Aphrodite, and Demeter. However, it does not contain every god in the Greek pantheon, and many prominent figures like Apollo and Hephaestus are missing. To many fans, these figures would've made perfect additions in a Hades DLC. Rather than wait for Supergiant to possibly make additions to the game, one fan has taken it upon themselves to give Hades an unofficial expansion.

A modder known as AlexKage on Nexus Mods has created what they term «OlympusExtra,» a piece of additional content for Hades that currently gives the player access to a new god. Specifically, the god of music, divination, and the bow, Apollo, is available to Hades players, complete with a unique hand-drawn design similar to the other characters in the game. Like the other gods, Apollo can also give boons and upgrades to Zagreus in «OlympusExtra.»
