Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will continue Thor's tragic story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe if the biggest Rocket theory comes true. Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy will once again have their stories intertwined in Phase 4. The main Guardians team is set to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, which is expected to set up the events of James Gunn's sequel. Although it isn't confirmed that Chirs Hemsworth's Thor will return in Guardians of the Galaxy 3, the highly-anticipated sequel could still include a major moment for Thor's MCU story.
Throughout the course of the MCU, Thor has become one of the universe's most powerful characters but also one of the more tragic. It really started in Thor: The Dark World with the death of his mother Frigga and a cloud of despair has followed him ever since. Jane Foster broke up with him sometime after Avengers: Age of Ultron. Thor: Ragnarok then saw his father Odin and his friends the Warriors Three all die, while even Asgard, Mjolnir, and his right eye were destroyed by the end. Avengers: Infinity War then began with more tragedy, as Thanos killed Thor's brother Loki and best friend Heimdall. It also ended on a dour note for the god of thunder as he didn't aim for the head, which let Thanos use the Infinity Stones to wipe out half of all life across the universe — sending him into a depressed state for Avengers: Endgame.
