Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reports that a Grand Theft Auto 6 announcement could be coming as early as this week, according to his sources.
Schreier’s sources also tell him that a trailer is scheduled for December, to coincide with Rockstar’s 25th anniversary. As one of the most anticipated games, anticipation is high for Rockstar to finally unveil the next chapter of the massive franchise.
For years there has been a flood of GTA 6 rumors, with nearly all proving to be false. However, due to Schreier’s track record, this claim holds a little more weight. Schreier had also previously reported that the upcoming game will feature a Latina protagonist which aligned with what we eventually saw in the colossal 2022 leak.
The gap between GTA 5 and its successor is the biggest in the franchise, with the game being originally released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. During this time, it’s had several re-releases, including a remaster for current-gen consoles. We got our first official mention of the successor in February 2022, and since then, reports from Schreier have claimed that we’ll be heading back to Vice City in the next installment.
It is hard to predict what the upcoming game will look and feel like, as there have been significant changes at Rockstar since GTA 5. Most notably, Dan Houser has left the studio, and there have also been reports of a cultural change at the studio as it aims to shed its old fratboy ways.
Prior reports claim that the upcoming game could launch in 2025, though we will have to wait for official word from Rockstar before marking our calendars.
