Kate Walsh comments on another possible return as Addison on Grey’s Anatomy. Created by Shonda Rhimes, Grey’s Anatomy premiered on ABC in 2005 and is now television’s longest-running medical drama series. Starring Ellen Pompeo as surgeon Meredith Grey, Grey’s Anatomy introduced Walsh as Dr. Addison Montgomety Shepherd, a neonatal surgeon, in the season 1 finale. At the end of season 3, Addison parted ways with Seattle Grace Hospital to practice medicine in Los Angeles, and Walsh starred in theGrey's Anatomy spinoff series, Private Practice.
Last September, Grey’s Anatomy season 18 debuted, centering on the surgeons dealing with the lasting effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Focusing on Meredith’s impending decision to leave Seattle for Minnesota, season 18 also featured the return of Walsh as Dr. Montgomery. Addison’s return to the hospital provided closure between Meredith and Addison after the death of Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) in an elevator scene and offered updates on Addison’s life since the events of the Private Practice finale. Shortly after Addison’s two-episode arc, Walsh donned her scrubs once again for one of the final episodes of the Grey's Anatomy season.
