Stranger Things star Maya Hawke addresses the possibility of Eddie Munson returning for season 5. Joseph Quinn’s metalhead Munson became a fan favorite early on in Stranger Things season 4. But in the final episode he became a legend for his act of self-sacrifice set to the strains of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets.”
Sadly Munson’s greatest guitar performance would be his last as he was killed while trying to defeat Vecna. And though sometimes death doesn’t stick in shows like Stranger Things, series creators The Duffer Brothers recently indicated that Eddie’s demise will be permanent, stating definitively that the character is dead. Nevertheless, fans hold out hope that somehow, some way Eddie will return for Stranger Things season 5.

On the flip-side however there is an argument that constantly bringing back dead characters is indeed not a good idea for a show like Stranger Things. This certainly seems to be the opinion of Robin actor Hawke, who told NME that though she gets why fans love Munson, she doesn’t necessarily want the character to come back to life. She said:
“I totally sympathize with fans who want to see more of him. … I feel like we can’t keep killing people and bringing them back to life – the same fans would be so annoyed! But I would love them to find a way to have Eddie’s ghost in the mix, just because Joe Quinn is such an awesome guy. He’s so much fun to have on set and such a great actor.”
Hawke’s “Eddie returns as a ghost” idea is in fact not a new thought, as Munson actor Quinn himself previously proposed he return for Stranger Things season 5 in supernatural form to communicate with his friend Dustin. Obviously
