Google I/O 2022: Pixel Fold & Other Announcements You Shouldn't Expect
Although it is possible, it's unlikely that the Pixel Fold will launch at the Google I/O 2022 event, which is coming in just a few days. Instead, the Pixel 6a seems likely to make an appearance and perhaps a Pixel Watch, along with the usual developer news and more details about Android 13. While Google hasn't teased any products that are coming in 2022, there are some intriguing possibilities for later in the year.
Google has announced that this year's developers' conference will occur from May 11 through May 12, 2022. There will be a live audience in Mountain View, Calif. However, the number of people will be limited. That means the presentation will be oriented toward online viewers primarily. The keynote starts at 10:00 a.m. PDT, and Google's event program notes that all product announcements are coming on day one, with day two presenting technical sessions that are primarily of interest to app developers and service providers.

The long-rumored Pixel Fold, Google's first flexible-screen smartphone, is expected to be released sometime this year. However, Google I/O is days away, and nothing suggests this will be showing up at the spring event. There have been several leaks. However, no actual photos or regulatory filings to indicate it's coming soon. It's much more likely that the Pixel Fold will launch in the fall of 2022, alongside the Pixel 7 series. The Pixel Fold is said to be quite similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, doubling in width when unfolded yet featuring a wider aspect ratio for improved productivity.
