Fallout 4 was released to the public nearly seven years ago, but it introduced a feature to the franchise that could also be beneficial to include in The Elder Scrolls 6. While the Fallout games have always been pretty separate from its fantasy cousin, Fallout 4 included an addition that could work in both franchises and become a potential staple for each world. Bethesda has revealed that this system had been debated while Fallout 4 was in production and had been cut numerous times, but ultimately was put in the final product as it added a new gameplay paradigm that could not only be used as a way for players to interact with the world, but also as a new tool for the story.
When Fallout 4 launched following Skyrim's release, many fans were excited at the prospect of exploring a new unseen area of the wasteland and being able to join new and familiar factions in the Fallout universe, but none expected that they would be able to contribute and rebuild the wasteland themselves. Fallout 4's settlement system changed the dynamics of the world and offered the player the chance to rebuild as much or as little of the world around them as they wanted. This settlement mode also extended into the main story, having the player construct radio relays at settlements across the map to help reform the minutemen faction, as well as having the player construct a series of machines around the middle of the campaign in order to progress and discover new regions otherwise undiscoverable.

While players wait for the release of Fallout 5 or Elder Scrolls 6, they continue to replay and mod older entries, with Fallout 4's settlement system being heavily expanded on by the modding
