Google assures fans Stadia is not closing down

Tech giant Google has had to publicly say that its Stadia streaming service is not closing down in the near future.

This follows reports that the cloud games platform was on the chopping block thanks to a post from @KilledByGoogle over on Twitter.

The account alleged that Google had held a large seminar for employees and retail workers in California recently during which the search giant revealed that it was planning on closing down Stadia. Though no date was reported, the account claimed that the streaming service would be gone by the end of summer – so not long from now at all.

In a post on Twitter, Google insisted that all is well with its cloud platform.

"Stadia is not shutting down," the company wrote.

"Rest assured we're always working on bringing more great games to the platform and Stadia Pro. Let us know if you have other questions."

Stadia debuted in November 2019 in rather messy fashion. In February 2021, Google closed down its first-party Stadia Games and Entertainment studios with reports at the time suggesting that the service has not met the search giant's expectations at all.

In the following months, Google had to insist that Stadia is "alive and well".
