The brutal battle between Trunks and Freiza is one of the most shocking fights in Dragon Ball history as it is equal parts gruesome and brief, but in one of Goku’s earliest battles, he revealed that Frieza could have averted a swift death with a single move that was proven to be incredibly effective in the most absurdly inappropriate way imaginable.
In Dragon Ball Chapter 331 by Akira Toriyama, Frieza makes a shocking return to continuity after he was presumed dead following his catastrophic battle with Goku on Planet Namek in an earlier storyline. Frieza was determined to enact his bloody vengeance upon the Saiyan warrior who so thoroughly defeated him, so he traveled to Earth to catch Goku off guard with the added support of his father, King Cold. However, when Frieza landed on the planet, he was met by another Saiyan who he didn’t recognize: Trunks. Trunks traveled back in time from his desolate future in an effort to undo the past and change history for the better. In the grand scheme of Trunks’ plans, Frieza and King Cold were of little consequence and were just an annoyance that Trunks would dispose of as quickly as possible. So, the sword-wielding warrior unsheathed his weapon, darted above Frieza faster than the villain could see, and came down upon him with a mighty swing of his sword–slicing Frieza in half and killing him instantly.
