GOG has announced the launch of the GOG Preservation Program, a new initiative in which it commits its own resources to maintaining games’ compatibility with modern and future PC setups. Over 100 improved classics, including Heroes of Might and Magic 3, Diablo + Hellfire, and Fallout: New Vegas, will receive the official “Preserved by GOG” stamp starting today.
“GOG, founded 16 years ago to preserve games, has made 2024 pivotal with the restoration of Alpha Protocol and classic Resident Evil titles,” GOG managing director Maciej Golębiewski said in a press release. “These releases embody our work: reviving games built on outdated, bespoke tech that original creators can no longer maintain. With the GOG Preservation Program, we continue our mission to make games live forever.”
Described as its “commitment to preserving gaming history,” games marked with the “Preserved by GOG” stamp will always be up to date and ready to run on current and future PC setups. The announcement reads: “Whether it’s manuals, [downloadable content], or missing features, we’re offering the most complete version possible, backed by GOG’s tech support and offline installers, so you can safeguard these classics for years to come.”
