Thanks to Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the MonsterVerse already has the perfect answer to Biollante. Despite her history as a one-and-done villain, Biollante is often discussed as a creature that could eventually be adapted to the MonsterVerse. She’s one of a handful of candidates for Godzilla’s next MonsterVerse opponent.
Having debuted in 1989’s Godzilla vs. Biollante, the plant-like kaiju provided the Heisei era with one of the most nuanced monster origin stories in the history of the Godzilla franchise. Created from the spliced DNA of a scientist’s dead daughter, Godzilla, and a rose, Biollante is an incredibly powerful monster with a special link to both the King of the Monsters and humanity. And with her vines and other plant-based powers, Biollante acted as a formidable foe for Godzilla. And though she ultimately survived their encounter at the end of the movie, she never made a second live-action appearance. However, there’s always a reason to hope that Toho or perhaps Legendary will eventually find a place for her in their movies.

For now, at least, Biollante doesn’t exist in the MonsterVerse, but a reveal in the Godzilla vs. Kong prequel graphic novel Godzilla: Dominion indicates that it may not necessarily need her. Apparently, the MonsterVerse has a Titan that’s comparable to Biollante. Amhuluk, whose name was mentioned on a monitor screen in King of the Monsters, was officially introduced in Dominion as a giant, moss-covered, tree-like Titan with a physically imposing design.
