Our Flag Means Death is already poised to make the perfect casting joke in season 2. Season 1 of the romantic pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death aired on HBO Max in March of this year and was renewed for a second season after ending on a cliffhanger. It follows Stede Bonnet, «The Gentleman Pirate,» and his crew through various misadventures, including run-ins with the Royal Navy.

His visage haunts Stede throughout Our Flag Means Death episode 2, «A Damned Man,» as Stede deals with his first «murder» as a pirate captain. Stede recovers from this misstep, and the rest of season 1 focuses on Stede and Blackbeard's relationship. Unfortunately, Stede has forgotten that Nigel has a twin brother, Admiral Chauncey Badminton, who the audience meets at the end of episode 5, «The Best Revenge Is Dressing Well.» Chauncey seeks revenge against Stede for his brother's death. He eventually catches Stede and attempts to kill him in episode 9, «Act of Grace.» Unfortunately, Chauncey meets a similar fate as his brother: he falls and accidentally shoots himself to death.
