Artist Jeremy Simser has shared a storyboard from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that depicts Karl Mordo's cut gruesome fate. Chiwetel Ejiofor portrayed an alternate universe version of the sorcerer on Earth-838 in Sam Raimi'sDoctor Strange 2. Karl Mordo previously made his debut in 2016's Doctor Strange as a mentor-turned-enemy of the titular hero, and the Multiverse of Madness saw the two face off again.
A devout follower of Tilda Swinton's Ancient One, Karl Mordo is one of the then-Sorceror Supreme's finest students, whose study of magic helped him overcome his demons and desire for vengeance. Mordo saved a broken Stephen (Benedict Cumberbatch) to Kamar-Taj, becoming an ally in the fight against Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen). But when the Ancient One's own use of forbidden magic is revealed, Mordo's faith is shattered. While the sequel introduced Earth-838's Mordo and the Illuminati, the whereabouts of the main MCU's Mordo was only hinted at by Stephen. In the Multiverse of Madness' audio commentary, Raimi and writer Michael Waldron revealed that Scarlet Witch initially decapitated Earth-616's Mordo in a bloody death scene, but the sequence was ultimately cut.
