Ghostbusters: Afterlife Honest Trailer Mocks The Reference-Heavy Sequel
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the latest film to receive the brutally funny Honest Trailers treatment. Jason Reitman directed the legacy sequel to the 1984 cult classic Ghostbusters, which follows four men who make it their mission to save New York City from paranormal threats. The newest film in the franchise sees the granddaughter of original Ghostbuster Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) discover the truth behind her grandfather's familial neglect and team with a new crew of Ghostbusters to save her town from another apocalyptic danger. Both critics and audiences favored the film, but some criticized it for pandering to nostalgic fanbases.
Screen Junkies touches on this element heavily in their latest Honest Trailer piece. Aside from the invariably picky comments about the writing, the Screen Junkies narrator picks apart the derivative nature of the Easter eggs and references within the film. Despite that, the video does admit to some touching moments and the big-budget adventure that the film presents. In the end, the late Ivan Reitman (Jason's father), who directed the 1984 Ghostbusters, is honored with a moment of silence. Check out the full video below:
