The starter Pokémon for the newly announced Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been revealed, including the English names of each Pokémon companion. The games were announced during the February Pokémon Presents, which celebrated Pokémon Day with a new video detailing what's to come from the future of the beloved franchse.
The reveal for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet comes alongside numerous other announcements given during the Pokémon Presents, like the new Daybreak update for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the addition of Generation 7 in Pokémon GO, and new mechanics for Pokémon Unite. Players will also be able to catch the Mythical Pokémon Shaymin in Pokéman Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The amount of content for available Pokémon games will hopefully tide fans over as they wait for further announcements regarding the heavily- anticipated Generation titles.

According to SerebiiNet on Twitter, the English names for the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet starters are Grass-type Sprigatito, Fire-type Fuecoco, and Water-type Quaxly. The names appear to have Spanish influences behind them, with the word "Gato" in Sprigatito translating to "cat" and "fue" in Fuecoco similar to "Fuego", or "fire," in Spanish. The stater names, mixed with what has been seen of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's architecture, indicate players may get to experience a whole new cultural influence within the Pokémon series, freshening gameplay that has predominantly been based in Japan, the UK, and the US.
