Gears of War: E-Day could be released next year, it’s been claimed.
According to The Verge’s sources (paywalled, via Reddit), a few months ago Microsoft was targeting a 2025 launch window for the newly announced game.
It’s unclear if that remains the case, and Microsoft didn’t announce a launch window for the title when it was revealed during Sunday’s Xbox Games Showcase.
The next mainline entry in the Gears of War series is an origin story that depicts the Locust invasion on Emergence Day.
It follows younger versions of the series’ original protagonists, Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, as they battle against the invading forces.
Also featured during the Xbox Games Showcase was Fable, which in development at Forza Horizon studio Playground Games, with support from Eidos Montreal.
A new trailer showing a mix of cinematics and gameplay confirmed plans to release the game in 2025 for Xbox Series X/S, PC and Game Pass.
The Verge’s sources said Microsoft is currently planning to release the RPG between October and December 2025.
Xbox’s showcase was also used to announce release dates for World of Warcraft: The War Within and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and to reiterate that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Avowed are still coming out this year too.
