A new trailer for the Fruits Basket movie reveals a first look at Tohru and Kyo's new scenes. The popular manga written and illustrated by Natsuki Takaya was first adapted into a 26-episode anime series in 2001 by Studio Deen, which featured numerous changes to the story that the original creator disapproved of. A rebooted anime series from TMS Entertainment began in 2019 and was a much more faithful adaptation of the source material, which was well-received all around.
The movie officially titled Fruits Basket — Prelude will now expand upon the 2019 adaptation with some prequel content for the characters, including Kyoko and Katsuya, the parents of the series protagonist Tohru Honda. The two characters' backstories from the manga were cut for the more recent anime adaptation. In addition to the prequel storylines, the Fruits Basket movie will feature new scenes set after the events of the 2019 series focusing on Tohru and Kyo's continuing relationship. The cast and crew from the anime all reprise their roles for the movie.
