2021 was a huge year for video game milestones. Pokemon turned 25, The Legend Of Zelda is now 35, and Donkey Kong celebrated its 40th birthday. While there don't appear to be quite as many big occasions in 2022, there are a few dotted here and there. One of the big ones will be 30 years since the launch of the very first Mario Kart game. Perhaps the world's greatest spin-off series has gone from strength to strength since then, and rumors are abound that Nintendo has something big planned to celebrate its 30th year.
If you believe the rumors and leaks surrounding that something big, then by the end of 2022 Nintendo will have announced its plans for an all new Mario Kart game. In fact, knowing Nintendo, we'll already have it. The studio doesn't tend to leave much time between its announcements and the subsequent release dates. The leaks will have you believe the all-new Mario Kart game will feature more characters from other branches of the Nintendo tree, such as Star Fox and Pikmin. Plus, other twists that will flip the successful spin-off series on its head.

All sounds pretty exciting, right? Sorry, I'm here to spoil the party. I don't think we need another Mario Kart game. In fact, I don't think anyone needs a new Mario Kart game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is in the top ten best-selling games every single week even though we are fast-approaching five years since it launched on Nintendo Switch. It has and continues to sell so many copies that it is now the best-selling Mario Kart game ever.
