The decision by Epic Games to age restrict skins in Fortnite patch 27.10 has fans up in arms over what some are calling the game's worst update ever.
The update restricts certain skins and cosmetics when playing in Fortnite content rated E10+ or lower. The criteria for selecting which content is restricted is often confusing or inconsistent, with skins that include guns being automatically restricted. Fortnite is a game where you shoot people, so this doesn't make a whole lot of sense on its face. Halloween's Michael Meyers, though? He's totally safe.
While the skin restrictions only apply to player created content, creators have to mark the rating on their own, which will likely lead to this entire endeavor being inconsistent on both Epic and the content creator's sides of the equation.
Epic Games later put out a statement to address the uproar:
«More on today’s rating announcement. About 7% of Fortnite Outfits can only be equipped in islands rated Teen. Over the next year we will enable most of these Outfits to be compatible with all ratings by having them auto-adjust appearance based on the island you want to play.»
