Halo Infinite’s December mid-season update is now live and it’s got fans excited for the return of the classic Firefight PvE mode, though it’s back with some changes.
Classic Firefight is a PvE survival mode where players must test their mettle against waves of enemies. In Halo Infinite, Firefight returns as a King of the Hill mode, allowing players to form teams of up to four players and victory is achieved by capturing the hill and defeating a final wave of enemies.
Firefight: King of the Hill matches will last five rounds and players must claim victory in at least three of those rounds to win the match. There are no lives in Firefight: King of the Hill, instead players will have to wait out a significant respawn period, though players can be revived. For players who want a little more of a classic experience, the lives mechanic can be restored via custom game options.
Ammo can be replenished and weapons can be changed in between rounds and matches are expected to last around 15-20 minutes.
Game modifying skulls are also available in Firefight with the addition of a somewhat random skull added if players successfully complete a round without any deaths. New end of round skulls will be added for each subsequent round won without deaths.
Firefight: King of the Hill can be played across nine different maps, five of which are already featured in the game, along with three maps made by the community as well as House of Reckoning, a new map added with the update.
