Square Enix announced that the second DLC for Final Fantasy XVI, The Rising Tide, will be unveiled at a PAX East 2024 panel scheduled to take place at the Albatross Theatre on Friday, March 22, at 8:30 AM Pacific Time or 11:30 AM Eastern Time. Producer Naoki Yoshida, DLC Director Takeo Kujiraoka, and Localization Director Michael-Christopher Koji Fox will be on stage to talk about The Rising Tide. The panel will also be streamed on the official Twitch channel of the convention, allowing everyone to check it out comfortably from home.
The Final Fantasy XVI DLCs were announced at The Game Awards in December. The first one, Echoes of the Fallen, was immediately available for purchase. It's a short adventure of two to three hours where protagonist Clive Rosfield discovers that black crystals are circulating on the market. His investigation brings him to confront a suspicious group of traders and explore a forgotten Fallen tower called the Sagespire.
The Rising Tide is supposed to be much meatier, clocking in at around ten hours of extra gameplay. DLC Director Takeo Kujiraoka said:
The second DLC will be a story about Leviathan, who is only mentioned by name in the main game. It will include a sidequest to explore the lore in detail, including the reason why Leviathan hasn’t appeared up to this point. The fight with Leviathan has to be seen to be believed, so keep your hopes high for a real spectacle! We’ve also added a new field area for the DLC, with beautiful blue skies stretching out above. The appearance of a new Eikon also means that Clive will obtain a new power. Leviathan’s Eikonic Feats and Abilities are completely different to other Eikons, with unique effects.
Final Fantasy XVI is getting The Rising Tide sometime in the Spring. Of course, the PAX East 2024 panel could also be the perfect occasion to discuss the upcoming PC version. Producer Naoki
