Final Fantasy VII Rebirth seems to have addressed one of the biggest issues of the original, as an official document from Square Enix suggests the game will have open-ended gameplay in the vein of a full-on open-world title.
The document, which can be found on the Square Enix Press website, provides an overview of the upcoming RPG. In the System section on page 13, the game's world is said to be divided into several regions, each one offering different environments to explore, and players are free to decide where to go and how to get there.
The new Final Fantasy VII Rebirth document also provides some additional information on the playable cast, as well as new 3D renders. Interestingly enough, it seems both Cloud and Tifa will have some aerial abilities, and Aerith will be able to warp around the battlefield. Combat against aerial enemies in Final Fantasy VII Remake felt really clunky, so it is good to hear that the development team addressed this issue as well.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PlayStation 5 on February 29th, 2024 worldwide. The game will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive for only three months, so it won't take as much to see the game launch on PC and potentially other platforms as Final Fantasy VII Remake.
